ETH 123. Race and American Society: The African-American Experience

African-Americans and the development of the United States from 1619 to the present. A survey course exploring the African origins of African-Americans and examining slavery, the Abolitionist movement, the Civil War, Reconstruction, segregation, African-American migration from the South, urbanization, the Civil Rights movement, contemporary issues and events, and African-American cultural expressions all within the context of American social history. (Offered every semester.)
