GOV 215. The Legislative Process

The status of the legislature within the American political system. The issue of executive encroachment on legislative powers in the wake of Watergate. Internal organization, leadership, and the question of legislative reform. Systems of representation and apportionment. State legislative systems. The evolution of legislatures and their relationship to democratic theory. (Offered fall semesters.)
Prerequisite: English 101. In addition: Government 101 or permission of the section instructor.
