GOV 470. The Political Theory of Criminal Justice

An integrated synopsis of the major western theories of criminal justice with a special emphasis on punishment. The arguments dealt with will be those of the contract and utilitarian tradition and its opponents, as well as the opposed communitarian tradition. (Not offered 2005-2007.)
Prerequisite: English 102. In addition: senior standing; or permission of the section instructor.
